You may be eligible for an open work permit if you are the spouse or common-law partner of someone with a valid Work Permit or Study Permit in Canada.
In your application you must demonstrate that you are in a genuine relationship with your spouse or common-law partner. You must also verify that you meet the general eligibility requirements for a work permit including:
Your spouse or common-law partner must be working in an occupation falling under TEER category 0, 1, 2, 3, 4 or 5 of the National Occupational Classification (NOC) system. They must also be authorized to work for at least 6 months after you apply for your Work Permit.
Your spouse or common-law partner must be studying at a public post-secondary school, such as a college or university, or a collège d’enseignement général et professionnel (CEGEP) in Quebec. They must also be in a post-graduation work permit-eligible program of study.
