A super visa allows you to visit your children or grandchildren for up to 5 years at a time. With this visa, you are authorized for multiple entries for a period up to 10 years.

Requirements for Applicant (Parent/grandparent):

  • Be outside Canada when you submit your application
  • Be admissible to Canada
  • Take a medical exam from an approved panel physician
  • Have medical insurance from a Canadian insurance company that is:
    • valid for at least 1 year from the date of entry
    • at least $100,000 coverage
    • paid in full or instalments with a deposit (quotes aren’t accepted)
    • covering health care, hospitalization and repatriation
  • Prove that you are a genuine visitor to Canada who will leave at the end of your visit based on your ties to your home country, the purpose of your visit, your family and finances and the overall economic and political stability of your home country

Requirements for Inviter (Child/grandchild):

  • A Canadian citizen or permanent resident with a valid PR Card or Canadian passport
  • At least 18 years old and living in Canada
  • Sign a Sponsorship letter inviting your parent or grandparent to Canada including:
    • a promise of financial support for the duration of the visit
    • the number of people (including their name and date of birth) in your family
  • Proof of meeting the minimum necessary income. Their spouse of common-law partner can co-sign the letter of invitation and provide proof of income if necessary to meet the minimum necessary income. The following documents can be used as proof:
    • Notice of Assessment issued by the Canada Revenue Agency for the most recent tax year
    • T4 or T1 for the most recent tax year
    • pay stubs for the most recent 12-month period available
    • Employment Insurance benefit statements
    • a letter from an accountant confirming the annual income, if self‑employed
    • proof of other sources of income (for example, pension statements)
    • a letter from the employer stating the job title, job description and salary
    • bank statements
  • Proof of your relationship to your parent/grandparent
